After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and her master’s from Indiana University, Julie embarked upon a seven-year journey of teaching gifted children. "Teaching was one of the greatest experiences of my life; every day with my students was a gift,” said Julie. “They taught me to embrace life and to look at every new experience with wonder and excitement."
With the move to the Louisville, Julie decided to set her sights on a new endeavor – selling real estate.
On Derby Day 2000, Julie hit a real estate “Triple Crown” by receiving her real estate license, getting her first listing and selling that listing at full price all in the same day! Within months of joining Semonin Realtors, Julie became a leading candidate for "Rookie of the Year." She soon moved to Remax Properties East, where within her first full year, she received the Platinum Club Award, their highest honor.
Encouraged by this success, Julie considered establishing her own boutique real estate firm and, in 2003, she launched Julie Pogue Properties, selling historic and unique homes in the Anchorage area.
That first year of Julie Pogue Properties, Julie got out of the gate quickly and with gusto, selling more real estate than any other agent in the city, attaining the highest average sale price per home and immediately rocketing to the front as a leader in her profession. Through the years, the business has expanded to other selective areas and includes varying price points. Since the beginning, Julie has consistently been one of the highest grossing real estate agents in the Louisville area and entire state. As a result, Julie Pogue Properties has grown into a dedicated staff of office personnel and agents. Today Julie Pogue Properties is one of Louisville's leading high-end firms, providing its clients with top-flight service.
Julie is enthusiastic for Louisville, its growth and its charm as both a Midwestern – yet somewhat Southern – metropolis. Consequently, she has eagerly reciprocated the community she loves by serving in leadership positions in a diverse group of civic, charitable, and professional organizations and boards.
Julie currently serves as president of the Kentucky Women’s Forum, a subsidiary of the International Women’s Forum, which spans across five continents, 23 nations and has 64 affiliate forum locations connecting the world’s most preeminent women of significant and diverse achievement who are at the very top of their game. Julie recently traveled to Hong Kong as part of the Kentucky Women’s Forum, and is looking forward to visiting Ecuador in the fall of 2010.
Julie is also a graduate of the 2009 Bingham Fellows Program and the 2007 Class of Leadership Louisville. Each of these programs brings together the best and brightest individuals to serve as catalysts for a stronger community. Julie has also served as a top-level investor of Greater Louisville, Inc. (GLI), which led her to travel on a GLI Development Expedition to Dublin, Ireland, and subsequent GLI trips to Minneapolis and Indianapolis.
